Motorbike Insurance
Motorbike insurance might sound like a bit of a niche category of insurance, but there are actually a huge number of people who ride these sorts of vehicles, and so even within this there are subcategories depending on the type of vehicle you wish to cover.
Firstly it should be noted the difference between a machine with a motor and one that not - a push bike - standard bicycle insurance is a quite separate product.
With motorbikes one might be looking for motorbike cover, which again breaks down very much depending on what type of motorbike you have and it's power, just like it will cost more to insure a ferrari compared to a standard town car, so with a super-duper motorbike costs will be higher. Indeed some insurers will break down the types of insurance they offer within the motorbike category to commuters, sportsbikes, off road biking activities, those used for touring and more besides - even customising policies to exact needs.
Other types of vehicle that can be covered include mopeds and scooters, and again there are providers who offer specific levels of cover for those vehicles.
Clearly if you own a motorbike then you will want to ensure that you get a good deal on your insurance, and also ensure that it offers the level of protection that you require and feel comfortable with.
In terms of what is covered, then clearly options include things like breakdown cover, legal cover and can include cover for things like your leathers and helmet too. There are all the usual options you'd expect to see: third party cover alone, then third party cover together with fire and theft cover, and then the fully comprehensive cover - which as you'd expect is the most expensive although it covers the widest amount of eventualities. Together with this there may be various other extras you can add too.
Various factors will be taken into account when you get a quote, and you can get a good idea of these by looking at some online comparison sites for motorbike insurance to get a feel for this. Clearly you will need to get a good idea of what the value of your motorcycle is if you don't already know, and know your mileage, and also you will need to know when you purchased the bike. Remember that parking a motorbike securely, say in a garage, is seen as a plus, and if you do this and mention it on your quote then it can lead to a slightly lower total cost.
Finally if you are an advanced driver - as in you have an advanced qualified in motorcycle riding, then again mention this when getting quotes.
